Call for applications for a student assistant position at the Research Training Group “Aesthetics of Democracy” (m/f/d)

The Research Training Group “Aesthetics of Democracy” (spokespersons: Prof. Dr. Johannes Völz (Frankfurt) & Prof. Dr. Sophie Loidolt (Darmstadt)) is looking for

one student assistant position (10 hours per week), starting on October 16, 2026.

The position is initially limited to one year, with the possibility of extension.

Responsibilities:

  • Assisting with the research training group’s public relations work (Social Media, Website)
  • Assisting with the organization of events
  • Performing general administrative tasks
  • Editorial assistance with the research training group’s publications
  • Supporting minor research work and library tasks
  • Assisting with other tasks that arise at the research training group

Your profile:

  • Enrolled student with an interest in the topics covered by the research training group
  • Ideally, experience in website and social media maintenance
  • Ideally, experience in Indesign or Canva to create posters or slideposts on social media
  • Reliable, independent, and committed approach to work
  • Willingness to assist at events, including on evenings and weekends
  • Confident use of common Office applications and a general affinity towards computers
  • Proficient skills in German and English

Call for Applications: Association in the DFG Research Training Group “Aesthetics of Democracy”

The DFG Research Training Group “Aesthetics of Democracy” at Goethe-University Frankfurt am Main and the Technical University of Darmstadt has three openings for associate PhD or Postdoc positions starting on October 1, 2026, for a term of 18 months (a one-time extension of 24 months is possible).

Your Profile:

  • Enrolled doctoral candidate or postdoc at a German or international university
  • Research work directly related to the Research Training Group’s topic
  • Regular and active participation in the Research Training Group’s activities (especially colloquium, masterclasses, retreat; optional: introductory seminar, Public Humanities projects)

We offer:

  • Integration into our doctoral cohorts
  • Participation in the activities and events of the Research Training Group
  • Limited funding for short research trips or to invite guests

  • Information regarding the funding of your doctorate/Postdoc

  • Project description of your doctoral or postdopctoral project, including a timeline (max. 10 pages)

Please note: The status as an associate does not include funding in the form of a research assistant position or a scholarship. Funding for the doctoral program must be provided through other sources and must be documented.
