Frederike studied Cultural Theory and History, Scandinavian Studies, and Philosophy at Humboldt University of Berlin. She is Professor of Modern Scandinavian Literature and Culture at the Goethe University. Before taking up this post, Frederike was a Research Fellow at the Institute of Northern Philology at LMU Munich and affiliated with the Rachel Carson Center for Environment and Society. Her main research area is 19th and 20th century Scandinavian literature, including children’s and working-class literature. Before coming to Munich, she taught Cultural Theory and History at the Humboldt University of Berlin, Scandinavian Studies at the University of Greifswald, and International Cultural Studies and German Studies at the University of Mannheim, where she received her PhD in 2011. In her research, Frederike investigates class, hunger, and poverty in Scandinavian literature as well as relationships between ecology and literature.
