Julia Schade is Junior Professor of Performance Research at Goethe University Frankfurt. In her research she focuses on theatre, performance, media, and theory, as well as critical ecology and the afterlives of colonialism. In her book Unzeit. Widerständige Zeitlichkeiten in Performance, Kunst, Theorie (Neofelis 2024) she examines how performance, art, and theory articulate resistant temporalities that challenge the linear and universalized concepts of time underpinning Western modernity. Her current research project explores artistic and fabulative perspectives on waters and ecosystems with a particular emphasis on oceanic aesthetics and feminist activism in the context of (neo-)colonial extractivism. In addition, her work addresses aesthetics of property and dispossession, as well as performative and resistant practices of commoning.
