Martin Saar ist seit Herbst 2017 Professor für Sozialphilosophie an der Goethe-Universität Frankfurt am Main.
Vertretungen von Professuren und Gastaufenthalte haben ihn an die Universitäten Bremen und Hamburg, an die New School for Social Research in New York und an die Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin geführt. Von 2014 bis 2017 war er Professor für Politische Theorie an der Universität Leipzig. An der Goethe-Universität ist er Mitglied des Forschungszentrums „Normative Ordnungen“ sowie des Institutsrats und des Kollegiums des Instituts für Sozialforschung. Seine Arbeitsschwerpunkte beziehen sich auf die politische Ideengeschichte der frühen Neuzeit, die Kritische Theorie und die neuere französische Philosophie sowie auf Fragen nach Macht, Geschichte, Demokratie und Subjektivität.
