Zhiyi Yang is Chair Professor of Sinology at Goethe University Frankfurt. She studied Chinese literature and comparative literature at Peking University and then acquired a PhD in East Asian Studies at Princeton University. Her research ranges from medieval Chinese poetry to contemporary digital poetry, investigating how Chinese classical lyric traditions intersect with aesthetics, history, intellectual history, cultural memory, as well as media and culture. In recent years, her work on modern classicism challenges the notion of Chinese literary modernity and critically investigates digital governance. Her current research project focuses on the institutional role of lyric classicism in Chinese communist revolution. She collaborates with scholars on interdisciplinary projects of global Sinophone classicisms and of aesthetics of democracy.
